What are the Best Baby Thermometers?

There is no one baby thermometer that is best for everyone. The best baby thermometer for your baby depends upon the age of your baby and what is most comfortable for your baby and you.

If your baby is less than 3 months old a rectal baby thermometer is recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics. It is the most accurate and when a baby that young has a fever it is important to be able to accurately communicate to your doctor what the baby’s temperature is.

If your baby is over 6 months old then a baby ear thermometer is a good choice. At that point the ear canal has grown large enough to accomodate an ear thermometer and it is possible to get an accurate reading.

Once your child becomes 4 or 5 years old an oral thermometer can also be used. You can now use the same thermometers that are used for adults. Of course every child will be different on what thermometer is most comfortable for them and which ones cause the most fidgeting.
